It’s 1952, a US Marine arrives at the Port of Barcelona and has 8 hours to spare. Where do they head? To Cèntric. Now in 2023, a worker in a store in Carrer Tallers has a 20-minute break. Where do they head? To Cèntric. If there is one thing that has defined Cèntric, it is precisely that it is a meeting point. For local residents, workers, tourists and anyone just out for a stroll.
It is a cosy but well-lit establishment, a traditional bodega that has been perfecting over the years all the typical dishes that have become classics at Cèntric, such as patatas bravas, Olivier salad and Barceloneta bomba. Vermouths, tapas and cocktails in the heart of the Raval that uphold the spirit of a hallmark Barcelona establishment.
Here, more than anywhere else, the walls paint a foolproof picture. Years upon years of experiences, anecdotes and memories fill the walls with paintings and photos that illustrate what the Cèntric has meant for the neighbourhood.
Stop for a moment. Come in, sit down, enjoy.
